Project Overview

The last project of Google UX design’s course focused on designing a product to meet certain social needs. This triggered the idea of the My Story app. In the first step, it aimed to decrease the social isolation of elderly people, and in the second step, it aimed to develop better intergenerational interaction. Based on the target users of the app, accessibility plays a pivotal role which challenged me in this project.

Goals

It would be a storytelling app that elderly people are narrating a story to kids. the story would be traditional, cultural, scientific, … .

Problems

There is a communication gap between the elderly and the younger people due to the physical distance or geographic barrier that the Coronavirus outbreak has caused.

Key design challenges

• Accessibility
• User-friendly
• Smooth navigation

Usability Study
Round 1 findings

“I need more guidance before doing video testing.”

“I wish I saw the demo on each page.”

“It is difficult to add title to the video.”

“I like to see a timer during recording.”

Round 2 findings
Iteration

• The background had low contrast. the grandmother’s hair had faded in the background.

• Adding a title to the video was difficult for users. Due to considering accessibility, the user can only speak with a tap on the microphone and the desired text will be typed.

• Watching other people’s videos motivates users to tell their stories.
